14th Biennale of European Towns and Town Planners
Naples, April 22nd, 2024
On the occasion of the 14th Biennale of European Towns and Town Planners organized by INU (National Institute of Urban Planning) and ECTP-CEU (European Council of Spatial Planners) UP-start Urban Planning srl contributed to the European debate on inclusive planning by presenting the Restoration and Enhancement Project of the Historic Gardens of the Former Benedictine Monastery of Saints Severino and Sossio in Naples.
The paper “Restoration and Enhancement of the Historic Gardens of the Monumental Complex of the former Monastery of Saints Severino and Sossio in Naples” was presented by Arch. Paola Caselli as part of the theme “CULTURAL HERITAGE. The presentation highlighted how a project of inclusion and adaptability should be understood not only physically with architectural approaches but also digitally, expanding the possibilities and ways of knowing, monitoring and using content. A space such as the State Archives of Naples (former Benedictine Monastery of Saints Severino and Sossio) can become not only a place to be experienced in space but also to be studied and learned about through digital infrastructure: in this sense, for example, environmental sensors (humidity, light, temperature,…) installed in the gardens allow us to learn about and monitor the effects caused by climate change on the plants and the monumental building itself.
The two-day sharing and discussion experience led to interesting insights in both academic and professional fields.
